Police Moving Occupy Auckland

Occupy Auckland

Occupy Auckland Protesters Occupy the Van with their Confiscated Items

It has been 101 days of Auckland being occupied and I was shocked when I heard that police began confiscating the protesters’ property today to make way for planning of February events.

Two arrests have been made due to “breaching the peace”.

Police piled the occupiers’ belongings into brown paper bags and threw them into the security van where many protesters began to occupy the back of the van shouting at the police that they’re being robbed and that their belongings are being stolen. As more and more police made a barrier around the van, the remaining protesters chanted “shame! Shame!”

The police reckon that they are simply moving the protesters off of Aotea Square to make way for the Chinese Lantern Festival which will be held there in February. Some protesters have already moved to Victoria Park or across the road from Aotea Square, but what’s to stop the police shoving them off there too?

This is making my blood boil. It is such an important message that the Occupy protests are standing for – why aren’t the police turning around to the government and refusing the orders of putting a stop to it? Police are just the manservants of the government right now.
